Investing in a greener future

Ongoing efforts at Kettering Park Hotel & Spa to reduce the venue’s carbon footprint and lower energy costs have seen an investment of around £180,000 in solar panels.

It is the latest in a series of initiatives over the past few years that have ranged from replacing gas powered boilers for ones with a modulating design that flex with the demand for energy so are more efficient and a voltage optimisation system that reduces voltage, making equipment more efficient.

Low energy lighting has been installed in public areas, bedrooms and meeting rooms.

Seemingly small measures, such as having milk and water dispensers in all bedroom corridors, have also played their part, saving around 30,000 plastic bottles going to waste. Food production is also carefully controlled and waste reduced through preparation and portion control systems, with any waste being recycled.

Andrew Hollett, General Manager at Kettering Park Hotel & Spa, said: “Installing solar panels on the roof space of the hotel is another significant investment for us and one that will help us towards our sustainability targets.

“We welcome thousands of guests and meeting and conference delegates to the hotel every year and we want to make sure we take measures to maintain the service levels they are looking for while at the same time being more energy efficient and reducing our carbon footprint.

Kettering Park Hotel & Spa has 14 meeting and conference rooms that can be reconfigured and adapted to suit organisers’ requirements for anything up to 260 delegates.

The rooms all offer air conditioning, free wifi and professional audio-visual equipment including flat-screen TVs. Th e Day Delegate Rate, which starts at £47 per person, includes room hire, a two-course hot and cold buffet lunch, and unlimited refreshments and snacks, as well as the support of the events team throughout the day to ensure everything runs smoothly, providing advice on everything from configuring the right room for the right number of delegates to arranging catering.

In addition, the hotel has 117 bedrooms and 220 car parking spaces, including six EV charging points, as well as a bar and restaurant, where there is a new Curious Kitchen menu that offers a selection of innovative dishes, blending local flavour and suppliers with global flavours and influences, and using only the best ingredients.

There’s also a well-equipped gym and spa, including pool, sauna, steam room and spa baths and treatment rooms for those who enjoy a little bit of pampering.

Andrew added: “A venue like this inevitably has high energy usage, from equipment in meeting rooms to lighting, food storage and preparation, and we need to take a lead in reducing the impact of that as much as possible.

“From solar panels to EV chargers, to simply reducing the plastic bottles and containers we use in the bedrooms, we’re committed to reducing our energy usage and meeting our sustainability targets.”
