Next March fundraising runners will turn out for the Milton Keynes Festival of Running, including the contingent running on behalf of the children’s bereavement charity Harry’s Rainbow.
It is hoped that around 100 runners will join the Harry’s Rainbow team and raise vital funds, but, with the help of local businesses, the organisers are hoping that a greater proportion of the money raised will get to where it is needed most – helping children who are dealing with the loss of a loved one.
Odette Mould, CEO and founder of Harry’s Rainbow, who will be running with the Mayor of Milton Keynes, Cllr Mick Legg, has called on businesses to offer their support, either by putting a team in the event, or by helping out financially or practically. Odette said:
“There are costs to getting involved in an event like this and if we could get support from a local business, that would be amazing,”
“It could be a donation, to pay for the running vests, for instance, or it could be they can do something to help out on the day, even if it’s just cheering runners on across the route.
“Or they could put a team into the event, it’s a great way for colleagues to organise their training programme and then run together on the day for a good cause. There’s a range of distances, from 5K upwards, so it’s something most people can manage.
“What’s important, though, is that as much of the money raised as possible goes towards helping children, so any financial support an organisation can offer means we cover more of our costs and more gets to where it is needed most.”
Harry’s Rainbow supports children and young people in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas who have lost a parent or sibling by providing information and guidance through its website and social media sites, as well as support groups, activities and trips and individual, tailored support where it is needed.
The run, which will take place on March 17, 2024, will include 5K, 10K, half marathon and 20 Mile distances. Harry’s Rainbow sponsorship targets range from just £50 for runners who are under 18 years and go up to £150 for the half marathon and 20 Mile runners. Runners will receive a personalised running vest and a buffet lunch on the day and can attend a training info event at The Good Gym MK to boost their preparations. Odette added:
“We already have 70 runners signed up and we’re confident we’ll get to at least 100 before the event, so it’s going to be a great day and will make so much difference to children who need our support.”
