Managing changes to employment law

The Employment Rights Bill is advancing towards becoming law and many business leaders are concerned about the implications for their growth strategies. By understanding the new legislation in advance, employers can protect their businesses, continue to hire essential talent and keep plans for business expansion on track.

FG Solicitors’ Business Solutions Series is an exclusive set of seminars run by legal experts for business leaders and key decision-makers. The firm recently held its second event at Delapré Abbey, called ‘Work Without Boundaries’. The seminar focused on how businesses can navigate the changes to employment law and prioritise legal compliance without compromising on development.

Th e event was led by Helen Taylor, Principal Solicitor, and Karen Kaur, Head of Global Mobility at FG Solicitors. Helen has over 20 years’ experience advising on a wide range of HR and employment law issues in the UK and abroad, and Karen is an expert in Global Expansion Initiatives.

Helen shared a detailed roadmap of the upcoming changes to employment law and when they will be implemented over the next few years. These changes include additional protection for whistleblowers and pregnant workers, the debated and controversial improvements to unfair dismissal rights, improved flexible working rights and more. She then explained in depth how it may affect businesses, and the steps decision-makers can take to protect their businesses.

Helen said: “I think it is going to revolutionise the way we do business and it is a revolution that we can’t ignore. It is going to cause a radical change to the way we deal with employees and the workforce, and the employment law changes are going to be on a scale that we’ve not seen for decades.”

FG Solicitors advises business leaders to undertake an impact assessment ahead of the new law. Th is assessment allows businesses to identify potential risks across critical areas such as finances, the
workforce and HR documentation, make informed decisions and achieve legal compliance.

Karen discussed global mobility, expansion and immigration. The advice was clear: “Planning is the most important thing that you can do when moving operations overseas. If business leaders are interested in expanding globally, it is crucial that they gather evidence and supporting documents as soon as possible and always check they are applying for the correct visa to prevent unnecessary delays.”

‘Work Without Boundaries’ was a great success and received a strong turnout. Leila Souch, Director at 3RS IT Solutions, said: “The seminar was brilliant – it very much opened my eyes to things we are currently not doing as a business, and I took away a lot of useful information. I don’t understand HR, but Helen and Karen explained it very well and broke it down to a level where I can understand.”

Hannah Hewitt, Head of Professional Services at ACS Staffing Solutions, added: “The event had really useful information, clearly explained and relevant, with a lovely setting and refreshments.”

FG Solicitors’ highly skilled team of professionals bring over 50 years of combined levels of experience, specialising in Corporate, Commercial, Commercial Real Estate, International Immigration and Employment Law.

The third instalment of the Business Solutions Series is set to take place in February 2026.
