Opportunities for businesses
This year, the report includes more detailed information on the fastest growing businesses and international contributors.
Overall, the outlook is bright for the county, despite challenges affecting the economy as a whole. The report asserts that Northampton punches above its weight when compared to similar sized counties – with significant economic output across the towns.
The two firms held a dinner to celebrate the release of the report, with c-suite executives from the top 100 businesses in attendance.
First Budget from the new government
The event allowed discussions about business in the county and the wider economic picture. Mike and Matt highlight changes that have been introduced by the new Labour government in their first Budget.
The National Insurance increased rate and band changes, as well as the rise in minimum wage, have impacted heavily on businesses who employ a lot of people. Company profits and money put aside for their investment are being eaten away by increased wages and taxes.
The election and budget also affected mergers and acquisitions, with a slower first half of the year in anticipation of the election, and a rush of deals prior to the budget as businesses predicted a rise in capital gains tax.
The Northamptonshire Limited Report 2024
Conversation turns back to the Limited Report itself. The Top 3 remains the same, with Avara Foods, Winvic and Whitworth Bros. retaining their spots. Some of the highest growth companies include Weatherbys Private Bank, CSG Longboat, and Sloane Helicopters. There were also 18 new entries on the Top 100.
Both Mike and Matt highlight the importance of collaboration in the county’s business success. Initiatives like the Silverstone Tech Hub, the Saints Business Club and All Things Business’s own awards ceremonies give opportunities for businesses to collaborate, build and grow together.
The duo predict that collaboration and investment in technology will be key drivers of growth as we move into the second half of the decade.
