Product and service range expanded

Harnessing the experience that comes from more than a decade of leading the way in modular buildings and modern methods of construction (MMC), The Qube has expanded its product and service offering to cater to a wider audience.

The Qube, which has its headquarters in Northampton, specialises in creating bespoke modular buildings. Important factors such as ease of assembly and reduced time and disruption on site, as well as sustainability and longevity has seen the firm establish a large client base across the UK.

The success of the core business has driven the team to look at new avenues for expansion, with off-site construction still at the forefront of its thinking.

Tiny but perfectly formed

The Qube has teamed up with Australian firm – Designer Eco Tiny Homes, Australia – to bring alternative living solutions to the UK.

Tiny Homes offer chassis-built homes that can be easily situated on any suitable plot of land. The range starts at Tiny B&B, which is 4.8 metres long, up to the more luxurious Lifestyle Series 7000 which is seven metres long and incorporates a mezzanine large enough for a king size bed as well as a living area, bathroom and kitchen. The homes are ideal as a permanent residence, or as a holiday home/staycation retreat.

While planning regulations in the UK are likely to restrict the homes to holidays and short stays, in other countries, small communities of Tiny Homes are becoming increasingly popular.

Jordan Spittle, Associate Director at The Qube, said:

“These structures can certainly be lived in and would solve a lot of housing issues in this country. We have a housing shortage and are simply not building new houses quickly enough. And when we talk about affordable homes, those that are being built are really not all that affordable, especially when compared to other ‘affordable schemes’ across the world.

“In the USA and Australia there are small communities of these Tiny Homes and I think the same could happen here if we look to relax certain planning laws. In the meantime, they can be used as holiday homes/rentals with our target being the commercial market – holiday parks, farm or landowners who are looking at diversification or sources of extra income. It does not look like people are going to be able to fly abroad for holidays any time soon. We are hoping that our Tiny Homes will increase the opportunity for people to holiday in the UK.

“Furthermore, traditional housing might not be for everyone. For someone who lives alone and doesn’t want all the space that comes with even a small house, this could be an attractive proposition.”

Similar to the modular buildings, the Tiny Homes are designed and built off site in the firm’s factory and delivered to site where installation is relatively quick and easy.

Turn-key development solutions

While design and build of modular buildings is at the heart of The Qube, the experience and skills within the team has allowed the company to expand and offer a Developments service to the business.

Jordan said:

“We have people within the business that have a wealth of knowledge and experience in investing and managing property developments.”

The Qube’s new service includes:

  • Land sourcing and acquisition
  • Planning applications
  • Design and build

“The important thing is that we don’t need to turn to anyone else. We have a team that can offer a completely turn-key solution, and there are not that many firms locally who offer all services under one roof,” added Jordan. “Whether it’s a new home utilising an MMC approach, or traditional construction, we are able to manage the development process from start to finish.”
