There’s more to Wellingborough Golf Club than simply 18 holes on one of the leading and most scenic courses in the county.
Set in 160 acres of beautiful parkland surrounding the impressive Harrowden Hall, the club has a long tradition of welcoming visitors – members, guests and competitors in regional, county and open competitions – to play the par 72, 6,721-yard course.
Over the years, work on the present course, which began in 1972, has involved £500,000 worth of investment in relaying the greens, bunkers and surrounds in 1999, and another £300,000 in 2017 to upgrade all the bunkers to the new specification currently being used on the top courses in the world, which provides all year playability with no flooding. The result is that the club now has the facilities to host year-round golf on greens and bunkers that meet R&A and USGA standards.
When Harrowden Hall was purchased for use as a clubhouse, back in 1975, the original layout of the course was changed so that the first tee and the eighteenth green could be seen from the clubhouse.
Today, with a strong focus still very much on the standard of the course, there’s so much more to offer, including a range of facilities, from those for informal business meetings to the black-tie ball, and from conferences and seminars to weddings and family events. For the business user, Harrowden Hall itself can accommodate a variety of requirements, from an informal one-to-one meeting to a seminar for up to 60 people. The club’s events team are on hand to advise organisers on the best option and configuration to suit the size and type of meeting, seminar or conference they are looking to hold.
Most of the hall’s rooms enjoy picturesque views over the formal gardens and magnificent course, and whatever the event, you’re sure of a warm welcome, good service and fine food prepared on the premises. Most rooms have been recently refurbished, so guests can enjoy higher levels of elegance and comfort. The rooms are all located within the main house and a lift is available, if required, to the first floor.
Each room has natural daylight, with large windows overlooking either the well-maintained gardens or the golf course and is well equipped with wifi, mains sockets, flip charts, 65” screens and overhead projectors. Data projectors are available for hire on request. The lounge area opens onto a large terrace that enjoys views over both the gardens and course. The gardens also make an ideal location for a marquee. And, of course, once the business of the day is over, there’s always the opportunity of relaxing after the meeting and inviting your guests or delegates to join you on a course that will test even the best golfers. Once the golf is over, or for those who don’t play, Harrowden Hall is the perfect place to relax.
More Than A Golf Club Away from business, and golf, Harrowden Hall is an ideal place to hold a private family function, from birthday and anniversary parties to weddings and wakes. Steeped as it is in history – Sir Nicholas Vaux entertained Henry VIII there and Charles I was a regular visitor for a game of bowls during the Civil War – Harrowden Hall is a fitting backdrop for a special occasion.
The hall is licensed for civil marriages and partnership ceremonies in either the Vaux Room, with its high ceilings and splendid décor; or the smaller Leather Room, with its wood panelling and grand fireplace. Up to 80 guests can be accommodated in the Vaux Room for the Wedding Breakfast, while the Grand Hall is available for evening parties, with a maximum capacity of 150 people.
Whatever the event, the dedicated team will ensure that arrangements meet individual requirements and that guests enjoy a courteous and professional experience as they plan how the rooms can be best used for any occasion and ambiance required.
The team at Wellingborough Golf Club would welcome the opportunity to show visitors around Harrowden Hall and discuss how they can best meet your needs.
