Blues Foundation is proud to announce that several of its flagship activation programmes, which focus on positive mental and physical health, are set to resume as we head into the festive period.
The Guardian reported in 2019 that physical activity and participation levels in the recommended amount of daily exercise – just 30 minutes – dropped significantly over this period either due to the colder weather, holiday spirit taking over or generally putting it off until the New Year.
Blues Foundation is determined to continue having as great an impact across Bedfordshire as possible and is scheduled to restart some important activation to offer enrichment opportunities to young people in the local community.
As part of this, Blues Foundation’s Tackle LIFE has already resumed, with two sessions already taking place at Goldington Road, the home of Bedford Blues RFC. The Tackle LIFE project has been designed to look at using the power of sport and exercise to inspire young people disengaged from mainstream education.
Another project set to resume, and again hosted at Goldington Road, is the INSPIRE programme which ran earlier this year with Bedford College and will resume in December in time for Christmas, including sessions at the college’s own educational facilities.
At the end of the pilot run of sessions, participants were asked to fill in self-evaluation forms. Blues Foundation is proud to report that every single student scored their physical and mental wellbeing higher than at the start of the programme, citing development in areas such as communication, teamwork, leadership and employability.
And one of the most uplifting stories and projects since Blues Foundation launched in April 2020 is the ABILITY Blues project, which has run in conjunction with Wooden Spoon Bedfordshire and Autism Bedfordshire. Through this project, support is provided to disabled young people to promote physical and mental health.
