Plenty of action in club’s events calendar

Fans are invited to join Bedford Blues in the Blues Marquee on Thursday March 31, when Billy Twelvetrees makes a long-awaited return to Goldington Road as part of his Gloucester Rugby Testimonial Year celebrations.

The fly-half/centre, who had a stellar campaign for Bedford in 2008/09, will be joined by several of his Premiership teammates on the night as he continues to celebrate his tenth season at Kingsholm.

Hosted by Bedford’s very own Sam Roberts, tables of 10 are currently available to purchase for £600 with the proceeds raised on the night going to Billy’s testimonial fund.

From 7pm until late, the evening will begin with a superb three-course meal and an audio-visual display of Billy’s career highlights before the star of the evening is called up on stage for a Q&A.

Further entertainment will also take place throughout the night, alongside a raffle and an auction of some prized sports memorabilia.

Billy began his career in the Leicester Tigers Academy before heading to Goldington Road and becoming one of the leading players in the team – making 31 appearances, scoring 161 points including his infamous swan dive, images of which emblazon the walls of Goldington  Road.

Standout performances during that campaign earned him his chance back at Tigers where he made 45 appearances between 2009-12 and was part of the squad that reached the Premiership final in all three of his seasons back at Welford Road.

His move to Kingsholm was an inspired one and has led to numerous international honours. In total, he has made 247 appearances for Gloucester, winning a Challenge Cup as well as being runner-up twice, alongside making the semi-finals in the Premiership.

He made 23 appearances for England, including every game in three successive Six Nations (2013-15), and also went on the 2013 British & Irish Lions tour to Australia and featured in two of the non-test matches.

Business club ready to return

Bedford Blues are pleased to announce that the Bedford Blues Business Club, sponsored by Steve Monico Ltd, will be returning to Goldington Road this month. These popular business networking events, which were sidelined due to the pandemic and subsequent restrictions, are a great opportunity for local businesses to meet in informal settings.

The meetings, which start again on March 30, include a two-course meal, the opportunity to meet players and coaching staff and some insights into both the rugby and business world.

Meetings start at 12.30pm and cost £22 plus VAT and the March event will include a discussion with members of the playing squad after they complete their 2021/22 Championship league season and prepare for the Championship Cup.

For further details on either event, call 01234 321887 or email Bedford Blue’s Commercial Manager, Louis Mann, at louis@bedfordrugby.co.uk
