Having driven past The Wavendon Arms on a few occasions, we were finally able to stop and enjoy this amazing venue. For this visit, for something different, we decided to go for an early visit at 5pm on a weekday so we didn’t have to book. We think it is important to try different times at different venues.
The outside appeal of this venue has always been the main attraction for visiting as it looks classy. Upon entering the premises, the inside matches the exterior perfectly, a tasteful blend of dark colourings matched with some really clever lighting and some striking art. The staff were immediately attentive, found us a table straight away and were very polite. We were asked if the table was OK and our drinks order was taken.
We were given ample time to peruse the menus and really were spoilt for choice. There was something for everyone, starters, small plates, mains, steak cuts and then an array of burgers and pizzas. What looked nice, but was not something we opted for in the end, was the Menu of the Day, because although it looked very appealing, the main menu caught our attention more.
My guest opted for two small plates, fresh Italian burrata and the pan-fried prawns with chilli and feta. The main reason for two small plates was they simply couldn’t choice from the selection from the main menu. These arrived well presented, good sizes and were very tasty. The prawns were maybe a little bit too sweet, but this didn’t spoil the plate. The burrata was accompanied by homemade green pesto which was alive with colour and flavour.
I was drawn straight away to the king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, it was the first thing I spotted as it is my favourite dinner! I was initially stuck between the small plate options; the steak, the diablo pizza and the pork belly, but in the end, simply couldn’t resist the linguine. As with my guest’s small plates, this arrived perfectly sized and well presented. The whole plate tasted amazing and was complemented by just the right amount of garlic and chilli sauce. I would have preferred a bit more chilli but opted not add more as I did not want to disrupt the flavour.
There are two really stand out features about The Wavendon Arms, firstly the staff are friendly upon entry, attentive during a meal and smiley. This may seem like a small thing, but I find I enjoy visiting places with happy staff as this shows the staff are content in their role. Secondly, the aroma on entering the main entrance was delightful, a mixture of an open fire and the food we were soon going sample.
We also should add that the decoration, presentation and the cleanliness of this venue were really striking. The presentation gave the venue personality, it doesn’t look like every other pub or restaurant. The menu reflects the décor, the staff reflect the venue and the presentation gives you an impression of what you are going to enjoy.
We would rate this visit highly and recommend visiting this amazing venue as it really does cater for everyone.
This visit was booked anonymously and the food and drink was paid for by the writer.
