Promoting sport as something for everyone to enjoy

Bedford Blues and Bedford Blues Women celebrated International Women’s Day by announcing a new and exciting partnership agreement with Her Game Too, an organisation dedicated to making sport something that everyone can enjoy, regardless of gender.

First launched in May 2021, the fan-led, voluntary organisation initially focused on football, before recently turning its attention to rugby and cricket. Bedford Blues become the second elite rugby club to partner with Her Game Too, after Bristol Bears.

Bedford Blues Media Manager, Ryan Robinson said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with Her Game Too moving forwards, both directly for the benefit of women and girls playing rugby under the Blues umbrella, but also making games more accessible to everyone at Goldington Road.

“Rugby should be safe and enjoyable for all, hopefully the Blues Family already instils this.”

Her Game Too was founded by 12 passionate female football fans with a special launch video on social media. Since then, the campaign has only continued to grow in momentum.

With the support of both the Bedford Blues senior sides; the non- profit organisation is aiming to create further awareness, carry out research, educate the next generation, offer support for reporting systems in place at clubs, develop a strong sense of community and create strong relationships with other relevant partners, among much more.

Bedford Blues Women’s captain, Lucy Middleton added: “We endeavour to be role models for the younger generation as well as trying to encourage more women to try the sport for the first time. We’re looking forward to seeing where this partnership takes us as a team as we prepare for life in NC1 next season.”

The key objectives and aims for Her Game Too are:

  • Increase awareness of female rugby.
  • Increase attendances at female matches.
  • Increase participation numbers of women and girls playing rugby.
  • Support the next generation of girls getting into rugby.
  • Make rugby a mainstream activity for women and girls.
  • Increase female attendance at any and all sports fixtures.
