First anniversary of innovative workspace celebrates creative community it has built

Innovative serviced office hub Vulcan Works is celebrating its first anniversary. The award-winning creative workspace, based in Northampton’s Cultural Quarter, has made an impressive impact on the local business community since it opened its doors to customers in February last year. The centre officially launched with a party in April 2023.

As well as providing business support services to start ups and growing SMEs, Vulcan Works also offers dedicated co-working spaces, meeting rooms, lettable offices, creative spaces and networking events.

Some of the first customers to move into the building have praised the centre’s management team for establishing ‘a hub of creatives’ that has helped them to grow and flourish.

Fashion designer Matt Goddard took an office at Vulcan Works in February last year and has never looked back. He said:

“I heard about Vulcan Works through a friend and registered my interest before it officially opened. I really like the concept of being based at a hub for creatives and there being a cross pollination of people working in similar creative industries.

“Now I have a 145 square foot office with two desks and a floor to ceiling window which provides me with lots of natural light, which is perfect for what I do.”

Matt also met fellow Vulcan Works tenant Catherine Wise, a print designer, at the centre. Catherine was looking for a dual-purpose space outside of home – a studio for her artwork and a digital desktop for her computer aided design – when she came across the perfect package at Vulcan Works. She said:

“I found working at home just didn’t meet my needs. I needed a peaceful spot, a dedicated space for my work. I’d been looking for a really long time, but I hadn’t found anything.

“Being here at Vulcan Works opens up the resources of creating business opportunities in the future. I am continually able to build up the knowledge for the back end of my business and grow my network. I’ve met lots of lovely people already and I think there’s opportunity for more of that to come.”

Being part of a likeminded creative community is what attracted Intrface to the workspace. The digital product design consultancy was one of the first customers to move into the building, taking occupancy of a four-person office.

Co-founder and design director Aaron Humphreys said the mission of the operation resonated with him and his team, who work with funded start-ups, SaaS companies and SMEs to design and develop mobile and web applications. Aaron said:

“We wanted to be around more likeminded companies and similar creative agencies, and it made a lot of sense to be here. It fi t really nicely with our aesthetic and our brand.

“It has all the facilities we need, and I honestly believe there isn’t anything else like this in Northampton currently. Vulcan Works is another level. I would wholeheartedly recommend the space to other businesses, particularly to other creative industries as that’s one of the things that drew us to this place.”

Centre manager Garrick Hurter said:

“It has been a real privilege to watch our customers join our fold and flourish together using our services. Th e reach and popularity of Vulcan Works has surpassed all my own expectations and I’m delighted by all we have achieved as a team in the last 12 months, but this is only the beginning. I look forward to seeing Vulcan Works continue to thrive and provide a bustling, collaborative community that we can all be proud of.”

Vulcan Works will celebrate its first birthday with an exclusive invitation-only party for customers and stakeholders on May 15 from 4pm to 7pm.
