Constantly raising standards in roofing expertise

Learning any skill or trade takes time at the beginning – but the reality is that companies that want to continue to impress need to be continually ready to upskill and retrain their teams and adopt new practices and ideas.

Kingsley Roofing and Solar, based in Northampton, has built a reputation for quality and excellence, always exploring new products and techniques to help clients get the best results. Modern methods are not just designed to keep buildings in good repair and fully functioning, but to help meet sustainability targets as they do so.

Such an approach involves ongoing learning, with the Kingsley Roofing & Solar team regularly undertaking training courses on site and in the classroom to become proficient in innovative processes that open up a whole new range of opportunities for clients.

Managing Director Paul Bone said: “While all our team are fully trained and specialists in what they do, in this job you never stop learning. We’re always interested in new

ideas or products that come to market and when we find something that works, we have to make sure everyone is fully up to speed in how to do a good job for the client.

“Technology changes all the time – over the past year or so we’ve learned a lot about green roofs, which have strong environmental impact, and the installation of solar panels and the high-tech control systems that work alongside them, as well as techniques like liquid roofing.

“Training is a major part of what we do because we know it’s the best way to stay ahead of the game.”

Kingsley Roofing was founded by Paul ten years ago and specialises in installing, replacing and maintaining roofing systems for a variety of commercial premises. The majority of its projects are roofs for commercial new builds and complete roof repairs, lead work, flat roofs and pitched, and the team also offers fascia and guttering services.

Nearly five years ago, Paul and fellow Director Dale Dexeter combined their skills to add solar panel installation, a natural fit with the roofing skills, to the company’s portfolio and the firm is fully MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) accredited, so all work, on both the roof and the solar installation, comes with a warranty.

Last year, the firm completed its first green roof, using a sedum-based system that looks good and helps insulate the building and regulate internal temperatures, as well as providing a whole ecosystem that is good for the environment, improving air quality and attracting wildlife.

Paul said: “Everyone is looking at their environmental impact these days and exploring green options and as we have expertise in both roofing and solar, it’s the perfect combination, because we will carry out a complete check of the roof and complete any repairs before we fit the solar panels, which saves time and money down the line.

“And being roofing specialist, we are always keen to find out more about new products and how to use them, so our clients get the most benefit from what’s on the market.”

The Kingsley Roofing & Solar team has undergone training with two major products manufacturers recently: IKO Armourplan, which offers systems that deliver flexible and durable waterproofing solutions, offering a variety of membranes that are quick and safe to install and are suitable for a wide range of projects on warm or cold flat roofs, inverted roofs, and sloped roofs; and LRS, which produces and distributes cold liquid applied systems that are applied by brush or roller for fast and cost-effective waterproofing.

Corey Mee, Regional Technical Manager for LRS, said: “I had the pleasure of carrying out our approved contractor training for the team at Kingsley Roofing and Solar, and I knew straight away that the guys wanted to learn. They took everything on board, and you can really see this in all their work.”

LRS Managing Director Tom Shone added: “We pride ourselves on key partnerships with highly skilled liquid waterproofing craftsman, which is showcased in no better place than with the exceptional team at Kingsley.

“The team are credit to themselves and never fail to impress with their outstanding application qualities.”
