Row hard or row home: Corby gym flexes its muscles in community fitness event

A team of 36 community-conscious gym-goers have completed an action-packed day of fitness challenges to raise vital funds for Corby Foodbank.

Labelled as the ‘Spring Games’, the troop of fitness enthusiasts from Distinct Fitness, based on Cockerell Road, Corby came together for a morning of fitness events and challenges that tested strength and stamina while raising more than £570 for Corby Foodbank.

This is the second consecutive year that the community gym has supported the Foodbank, having raised £850 at last year’s Spring Games.

The annual event is the brainchild of the gym’s owners, husband and wife duo Jacek and Katie Gawor, which saw teams of four – including the aptly named, ‘Row hard or row home’ and ‘Quadzillas’ – competing against the clock to complete challenges including a row and ski-off, sled push race and a burpee ‘flip cup’ competition. Afterwards there was a raffle and a well-received bake sale.

Speaking on the success of the event, co-owner Katie said: “Here at Distinct we are proud of the community we have created, so it was great to bring people together, whatever their age, ability or background. Even members who couldn’t take part in the activities on the day supported the event by buying raffle tickets.

“If our community of gym-goers can have so much fun to get people together and enjoy fitness while supporting those who use Corby Foodbank, then it’s a win-win.”

Of the continued support, Martin Langford, manager at Corby Foodbank said: “It’s always heartwarming to know that Corby Foodbank is at the forefront of people’s minds, and I’m incredibly grateful to Jacek, Katie and everyone at Distinct Fitness for choosing to support us again.

“The money raised will make a real difference to local people facing hardship, helping us provide emergency food parcels to those who need them most in our community. It’s fantastic to see people coming together, having fun and using fitness as a force for good.”
