An award-winning biohazard cleaning company has welcomed the new guidelines for managing biological hazards and infection risks released by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The national independent regulator for workplace health, safety, and welfare across the UK has completely refreshed its online guidance and made major updates to its approved list of biological agents. Biological agents are micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi or viruses that may cause infection, allergy, toxicity or other hazard to human health.
Experts at Specialist Remediation Solutions (SRS) of Desborough say the changes will help employers and business owners to identify biological hazards that may be present in their workplace and find the information that they need much more easily.
The new webpage is split into nine navigable sections, including the law on infections at work, bloodborne viruses, preventing incidental exposures to biological agents and infections and genetically modified organisms.
The information explains what all the potential hazards are in particular workplaces and industries and signposts employers to guidance on how to protect their workers from them.
SRS managing director Stephen Booth said: “The new HSE guidance is so much more accessible for employers. It is easier to navigate and makes the health and safety rules simpler to access and follow which will directly lead to better protection and illness prevention for workers which is fantastic.
“At SRS, we specialise in the safe and effective remediation of hazardous materials in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. Our team of certified experts adheres to the highest industry standards, ensuring thorough decontamination while prioritising safety, discretion, and compliance. Their skills and knowledge means they are very aware of biohazards, the dangers and best practices in dealing with them.
“However, for a business without specialist knowledge of biohazards, sometimes the use of jargon and excessively long pages of information can create a barrier for business owners. These new rules are clear and concise making it easier to keep teams safe.”
