As entries close – meet the team with the toughest task

With entries for the Milton Keynes Education Awards 2024 closed, the difficult task of deciding upon the winners now begins.

Once all the entries and nominations have been scored and marked using a bespoke software-based scoring system, and the shortlists drawn up, the trio of judges will have the unenviable task of choosing who will take home the trophies at this year’s awards night at the DoubleTree by Hilton at Stadium MK on Friday, July 5. The headline sponsors for 2024 are Brioche Pasquier and Facilities Management Solutions.

At last year’s inaugural Milton Keynes Education Awards the feedback from the panel was that so many categories proved to be incredibly tightly contested and that the standard of entries showed the commitment and dedication of so many individuals and schools in the education sector.

This year, those joining the team from organisers All Things Business on the judging day will be three outstanding individuals from the region’s education and business sectors:

Dr Julie Mills: whose journey in education began as a part-time teacher in adult education and led to her becoming the Chief Executive of the Milton Keynes College Group. She has also led the college’s Prison Education Team and collaborated with prominent employers to help establish the South Central Institute of Technology in Bletchley.  Julie was awarded the OBE in 2019 in recognition of her contribution to education and she continues to advocate for inclusion and social mobility through her involvement with the Helena Kennedy Foundation and Women Leaders UK.

Ranjit Singh: as Philanthropy Director at Milton Keynes Community Foundation, Ranjit engages philanthropists, both corporate and individual, to invest in the local community. He has a broad range of experience in both the charitable and corporate sectors and is a co-founder of the Milton Keynes Ethnic Business Community, a network connecting, empowering and raising the profiles of ethnic minority business owners and professionals.

Iain Standen: CEO of the Bletchley Park Trust, which has undergone significant restoration and increased visitor engagement since he took over in 2012, Iain has a strong educational background. He served in the British Army in various locations and held positions of command, specialising in communications and intelligence. He has a deep passion for history and has been a battlefield guide for many years. He is involved in various professional organisations and serves as a Director of Destination Milton Keynes.

Ben Thomas, Managing Director of All Things Business, said:

“Last year’s awards, the first-ever awards for the Milton Keynes education sector, were a great success and the standard of entries was very high. Building on that, we know that this year’s awards will be bigger and better, and I would expect the entries to be just as impressive and just as tough to judge.

“We’re very grateful to the team of judges for supporting us in what promises to be a difficult process.”

The Milton Keynes Education Awards on Friday, July 5 will be hosted by dancer, choreographer and television personality Louie Spence. Tickets for the event will go on sale next month after the finalists have been announced.
