On the face of it, what Aga Burnat produces are delicious sweet treats for any occasion. In reality what she delivers is happiness – because who doesn’t feel better after being offered a beautiful cake every now and then?
Aga founded Sweets and Cakes by Aga four years ago and has built a reputation across Milton Keynes for some of the most stunning and creative displays, whether it’s a small selection in a cake box as a gift for family, friends or clients, or a table comprising 500 different desserts for a spectacular wedding reception.
Despite her relatively new-found love of baking, combined with an eye for design, Aga has developed her fledgling business into one that turns special occasions into extraordinary experiences.
“I only really started baking a few years ago after I had my daughter and was looking for a new venture that fitted in to my life with her,” said Aga.
“The cakes I make are a reminder of special times in people’s lives and it makes me so proud to produce something for them that is a part of that.”
One of the things that makes Sweets and Cakes by Aga so popular is that every order can be personalised. That might be a superheroes themed cake for a child’s birthday, or it might be hundreds of macarons, coloured to match the wedding day theme, all individually packaged to be given out to guests as thank you gifts.
End-of-term gift boxes for teachers are always a winner, and with the growing popularity of gender-reveal parties, there’s an increasing amount of pink and blue cakes and bakes being produced in Aga’s kitchen.
Possibly the most notable growth, though, has come in the corporate market, thanks to Aga working hard through social media and networking to bring her work to the attention of companies with a story to tell.
“If you’re launching a new business, or you’ve got a special anniversary or a new office opening to celebrate, we have so many options,” said Aga.
“A large sweet table not only looks fantastic, but if everything is made to reflect your brand colours, it will be a really impressive addition to any get-together or event. We can include a company logo if you want, or a slogan or message.
“If it’s not going to be an event, as such, then sending customers, or prospective clients, a cake box with a selection of all kinds of treats is something that they will remember, and if they remember the gift, they will remember who sent it.
“What I like about sweet tables or cake boxes is that you can have all kinds of options. Not everyone will like all flavours or types of cake, so with small treats, there is always going to be something that will be just perfect for each one of your guests.”
As well as large single cakes for a birthday or special event, Aga’s range includes cupcakes, cheesecakes, mousse cakes in all shapes and sizes, cakesicles (lollipop cakes), doughnuts, layer cakes and macarons. Everything is made using natural, local ingredients whenever possible and gluten-free options are available.
“When you think about it, cakes are there as a reminder at all the special times in people’s lives – birthday cakes, wedding cakes, christen- ing cakes – they represent love and happiness and celebrations,” said Aga.
“As my business grows, I come up with more and more ideas for what I might do next and I get very excited about doing something new and different, and I can’t wait to share all those flavours, shapes and colours with everyone.
“And the wonderful thing about it is that it doesn’t have to be a big occasion, even if it’s just a box of cakes for the family at the weekend, or a small display at a business event, it’s not hard to make a lasting and memorable impression.”
