Education remains a prominent sector for architects

Having worked with over 400 education clients nationally, Milton Keynes based architects, GSSArchitecture are continuing to build upon their impressive portfolio of projects within Buckinghamshire and the surrounding counties.

The studio has been working on several projects with Milton Keynes College, which include the newly refurbished Chaffron Centre at the Chaffron Way campus, as well as the three South Central Institute of Technology (SCIOT) sites in Bletchley, Reading and Oxford.

The new Chaffron Centre aims to become a hub for local companies and educators, providing evening and weekend courses in digital skills and artificial intelligence, designed to address the needs of local businesses, and create opportunities for people to advance their professional development. The project involved the extensive internal refurbishment of a wing of the college to deliver a high-quality environment that supports collaboration and learning, benefiting the local area.

Similarly, the SCIOT at both the Oxford and Bletchley campuses for Milton Keynes College, are currently making headway on site, whilst the scheme in Reading finished in late 2021. The Bletchley scheme involves the extensive redevelopment and extension of The Andrew Peck Building which will specialise in delivering technical and digital education with the aim of providing employers with a technically skilled workforce and students with a clear route to technical employment. By bridging skills gaps, the SCIOT will help to drive growth and widen opportunities. The project involves transforming the building into an exciting and modern education destination that will attract learners and improve the existing campus.

GSSArchitecture have an in-house Health and Wellbeing Team who contribute towards the designs of all projects produced to help improve all user environments and experiences. The group have been working closely with the design team on the Milton Keynes College projects to incorporate areas encouraging collaborative working as well as social spaces to help improve the health and wellbeing of its users.

In addition to collaborating with Milton Keynes College, GSS oversaw the completion of Hanslope Primary School in Milton Keynes, where the expansion has provided an additional 12 classrooms as well as an all-weather sports pitch. Similarly, GSS were recently appointed on a scheme for a new three-form entry primary school, 39-place nursery, and community health hub in Milton Keynes East.

Chris Chapman, Partner at GSSArchitecture and Milton Keynes office lead, said:

“We are thrilled to be working on so many varied projects in the Milton Keynes area and to be using our expertise to deliver these important projects for the local community. We look forward to seeing them in use in the very near future as well as many other projects we have been working on around the county.”
