Maintaining standards that ensure safety for everyone

Logistics demands efficiency and smooth processes, and in order to achieve that it takes a team of personnel who are properly trained and competent to the standards needed to keep a warehouse running effectively.

In fact, everyone in a business, from managers to the drivers themselves need to take responsibility and understand the importance of the correct use of warehouse equipment, ensuring the emphasis is on ‘prepare and prevent not repair and repent’. Instilling an understanding that skilled operators who have completed thorough training are safer and less likely to cause damage to themselves, the equipment and or goods, leaves employers confident that their warehouse is operating safely.

Well positioned to serve a diverse range of customers in safety is Pegasus Lift Truck Training, which provides high-quality training and warehouse courses with a particular emphasis on operations. More than 400 5-star Google reviews confirm its approach in helping managers to deliver a safe and efficient service and in understanding what it takes to ensure individuals are operating in a way that is compliant and safe.

Pegasus recently celebrated 28 years in business, a significant milestone that has been built on hard work, dedication and perseverance. With a likeminded team of trainers and staff, and a good reputation in the industry, it provides a strong foundation to the business and their customers.

Director, Dawn Girardi said:

“We put great emphasis on being transparent, open and honest, and the knowledge of the team can be called upon to benefit the customer in any way necessary. Training drivers is the core of what we do, but there’s more to it than that. Our knowledge of materials handling means that we can advise clients on the type of equipment they might need, and our understanding of the sector means that our experience and advice is invaluable for a whole array of services.”

Having developed its services over the years, Pegasus is on hand to offer help and ensure all training, delivered at customers’ own sites, meets specific needs and internal work processes.

Owners Dawn and Giuseppe Girardi head up the training team and maintain that flexibility and adaptability is at the core of everything they do and the aim is to build up working relationships, forming a support network for customers, whilst arranging courses to fit in with working hours and routines. Hours can be adapted to suit and it’s easier for Pegasus to work within shifts, at night, than a business having to move drivers around to accommodate daytime shifts. All training is relevant to the setting, and we will work the times that suit.

Giuseppe GirardiGiuseppe said
“In the past, we’ve learnt about specific courses at the request of customers, we know that every business is different, and everyone’s needs are different. This was evident when we were asked to conduct an EVAC (Emergency Evacuation course) for operator up vehicles, on one of our customers sites and it’s this kind of thing we like to think sets us apart, as well as the range and standard of the tuition we deliver.

“Companies using VNA trucks must have a plan in place in the event of an emergency to be able to evacuate from the truck safely. Recently, a customer’s truck had a hose break which failed to function, thus rendering the vehicle unusable and stuck at high level, with the driver eight metres in the air. The company had to ring for the emergency services to rescue the operator from the stranded vehicle, had they have taken EVAC training, the driver would have been taught how to use a harness and descender to escape. Plans are now in progress to carry out this type of training on site, instead of relying on a very costly escape route.”

Pegasus Lift Truck Training works with customers across the UK and with everything from small businesses to large national organisations, and it puts hundreds of drivers a year through its ITSSAR (Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register) accredited courses. Alongside this, it offers a one-stop shop, working with trusted and reliable partners, to offer racking inspections, banksman, overhead gantry cranes training, driving with chemical loads, fire marshal, first aid and most things warehouse related, down to pest control, workplace washroom hygiene and energy.

Giuseppe added:

“All we want is for our clients to have their teams fully trained and working safely and we’ll do whatever we need to do to make that happen and continue to focus on supporting safe and efficient operations.

“Some companies choose to use in-house instructors while others prefer to have an external partner like Pegasus on hand. The benefit of an external partner is that the training delivered is always absolutely in line with current legislation and we receive exceptional ITSSAR Accreditation results in our annual monitoring.”

Giuseppe’s Italian background also supports with a knowledge of other European languages which means he can often communicate with drivers who don’t speak English as a first language and eliminates the need for translators during training.

With a new Pegasus staff member joining the team this month, the company is planning to introduce a new in-house bespoke system to amalgamate processes, which in turn will enhance the professional services that customers are already used to receiving. Providing a service is one thing, building a business relationship into a partnership is quite another and it is their collaborative approach that the Pegasus team believes makes the difference to the service their clients receive.

Strategic partnerships are not about relinquishing control but choosing the right avenue of support.
