Changing business practices call for adaptability, and Phoenix Training is ready, willing and flexible enough to respond to customers’ evolving needs.
The first half of this year has seen the award-winning ITSSAR and RTITB accredited fork lift training centre in Wellingborough delivering increasing numbers of instructor training courses as larger companies look to move their training in-house.
At the same time, the popularity of pedestrian reach and counterbalance courses has risen sharply – something that proves no issue for the highly qualified Phoenix Training team.
In fact, as Managing Director Emma Williams, explained, a change is as good as a rest.
“The majority of our training sessions are rider operated equipment, but just lately we have seen a significant rise in pedestrian forklift, counterbalance and reach trucks,” she said.
“I think that’s partly because companies are making more efficient use of the storage space they have available and pedestrian equipment, which is operated on foot, can be used in much tighter spaces than a rider operated truck, where the driver sits in a cab.”
Celebrating its 38th anniversary this month, Phoenix Training courses cover everything from beginners to those that are trained and need either refresher courses or conversion training and includes instruction on fork lift trucks, narrow aisle, pivot steer, cranes, scissor lifts, cherry pickers and abrasive wheels. There’s also IOSH Managing Safely and Working Safely courses, and Managers and Supervisors Awareness courses.
Experienced operator training is specifically aimed at those who have been using equipment for years but has never had any formal training and need certification, or those who have trained in other countries and need UK certification.
Around half of the courses Phoenix Training delivers are at the firm’s dedicated training centre, with the rest of the training being carried out at customers’ sites.
“Our instructor training courses have doubled in the first few months of 2021,” said Emma. “Larger customers with a high turnover of staff are finding that it is much more cost effective to have someone in house who can train new staff.
“Health and safety is another growing area, and we often get customers coming to us with specific needs. Because the whole team is health and safety qualified, we can look at those needs and work with the customer to put together a bespoke programme that ensures they’ve got everything properly covered.
“The approach at Phoenix is always centred around the customer. If someone comes to us with a specific need, we can react to that. If it’s something we don’t provide, then we will know someone who can help them, so they can come to us knowing we’ll make sure they get the training they need.”
