Fresh produce benefits from growing fleet

Fuel efficiency, reliability, driver safety and comfort were the key factors when SH Pratt Group in Luton was looking to increase its fleet of delivery vehicles.

The Group comprises two fresh produce operations; SH Pratt Bananas based at its primary facility in Luton, ripening over 30 million bananas per week, and Halo, a bespoke value-added service strategically located at London Gateway’s Logistics Park. Both arms of the Group rely on Kinship Logistics, the firm’s own distribution provider, to supply to leading supermarkets across the UK.

Kinship Logistics was founded as part of SH Pratt Group’s extension of its transport services, creating a specialised distribution service that understood the significance of ensuring fresh produce was delivered on time and in perfect condition, not only for SH Pratt and the Halo operation but also for  their multiple non-group affiliated customers.

In addition to enhancing the existing Kinship fleet, the 26 new MAN TGX510 XXL trucks also deliver the instant benefit of much-improved performance in terms of fuel efficiency, as well as a host of key drivers features such as LED lights and all-round comfort.

When it comes to safety the vehicles feature advanced safety systems including Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), Lane Guard System (LGS). Included in the standard specification is the Electronic Parking Brake, which applies automatically when the vehicle is parked, with the gearbox in neutral and the ignition key removed. Direct Vision Standard cameras have also been added to reduce blindspots and ensure enhanced levels of view when operating in populated urban areas.

Nick Waller, Head of Compliance and Fleet at Kinship Logistics, said: “We thoroughly researched the trucks available to us and identified the new MAN model as one to try out. We were able to secure a demo vehicle to come down and be tested by all the drivers, and were convinced these new vehicles would help SH Pratt and Kinship meet an increased demand for deliveries and ensure we continue to meet and deliver upon our customer expectations.

“We want our drivers to enjoy a comfortable, safe and pleasant working environment and the new generation MAN trucks have improved immeasurably. Constructive feedback from our drivers led us to settle on this model, as they were extremely positive after trying them out.”

All MAN vehicles are supported by MAN Truck & Bus UK’s Nationwide Commercial Vehicle Dealer network, with many operating extended hours, including round-the-clock servicing and customer tailored solution maintenance.

The entire MAN range benefits from MAN’s Mobile24 24-hour assistance service, which guarantees customers a professional roadside partner throughout Europe 365 days of the year.
