Adam Young has enjoyed his role as Audit and Advisory Partner at MHA MacIntyre Hudson for over 20 years now. Always working and living in this area, Adam is passionate about the success of his clients, his own business and also the wider community.
Having acted for transport and warehousing clients for a large part of his career to date, Adam has been head of the firm’s specialist transport sector group in recent years, driving this important part of the business forward.
A key enduring partnership locally has been the sponsorship of the Northamptonshire Logistics Awards, which the firm has been delighted to support from the beginning in 2016. This year, MHA MacIntyre Hudson is, again, headline sponsor for the awards event on September 16 at The Park Inn in Northampton.
Over the years of its involvement, MHA MacIntyre Hudson has attended many of the regular Northamptonshire Logistics Forum meetings run by Tony Bellott and Charlotte Patrick, providing specialist speakers on key issues and topics happening within the sector. In addition, it has been an active part of the judging panel for the awards each year and is always reminded that this sector is all about the people, not just large warehouses and lorries that are often in the forefront of people’s minds.
The approach to advising clients in this area is, as always, a mixture of deep understanding of the individual business plan and shareholders’ goals, coupled with access to relevant experts as required. This is underpinned by the trust built up through years of consistent delivery.
Due to the significant levels of capital invested, whether vehicles, machinery or warehousing, let alone working capital, it has been no surprise that the specialist Banking & Finance division and the Corporate Finance team, led by Laurence Whitehead, have always been actively involved. These teams have supported clients with requirements from asset and invoice financing, through to full scale re-banking exercises connected to funding shareholder exits. The careful management of cashflow and appropriate structuring of company debt is even more important in this sector than many others.
Whilst discussing capital expenditure and the difficult journey to come over the upcoming years to meet net zero carbon emissions, the firm ensures clients attract tax relief wherever possible to help with financing this important transition. Whether it is capital allowances connected to efficient lighting schemes or heating and cooling systems, or R&D tax breaks on developing technological advancements, experienced tax advisors are on hand, led by resident Tax Partners Rachel Nutt and Nathan Sutcliffe.
VAT and Duty are also subjects where advice is required, whether it be for the client themselves or their own international customers that they are supporting in the UK. Experienced VAT Partner Alison Horner has advised on high value commercial property transactions and, through the firm’s international network, Baker Tilly International, handled the Brexit transition and connected supply chain advice. Many clients were also able to access, through MHA MacIntyre Hudson, Government-funded bespoke VAT and Duty training at that time.
