Toasting hospitality heroes

County culinary champions Greedy Gordons are hoping to add to their collection of accolades after announcing they have been nominated for the National Pub & Bar Awards 2025.

Organised in conjunction with Pub & Bar magazine the National Pub & Bar Awards showcase the UK’s finest pubs and bars on a national scale, highlighting the best venues located within 94 counties across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The 2025 County Nominees have been recently revealed, which was cause for celebration for Greedy Gordons.

The 2025 nominees for Northamptonshire include The Red Lion in Cranford, Greedy Gordons multi-award-winning pub. Greedy Gordons Director Richard Gordon and the team hope to taste triumph at the prestigious awards event. The winners will be announced at the grand final ceremony taking place on June 24 in London.

On-trade publication, Pub & Bar, hosts the annual National Pub & Bar Awards, which ‘reward the trade for overall retail excellence, best practice and individual entrepreneurship across the UK’s 94 counties’.

Richard raised a glass to toast The Red Lion’s latest award nomination and is thrilled that the pub is just one of only three in the running for the county’s accolade.

He said: “The Red Lion team are all incredibly excited to be attending the prestigious National Pub & Bar Awards, it’s an absolute honour to be announced as county nominees representing Northamptonshire.

“The awards night will also reveal the additional awards winners of the Pub Group of the Year plus the overall National Pub & Bar of the Year. The event will also launch the Top 10 Pubs & Bars in the UK list, which has been voted for by hundreds of operators from across the country. It will be an opportunity for us all to come together and celebrate the hospitality industry during such challenging times.”

Greedy Gordons venues, which include The Red Lion, The Snooty Fox in Lowick, The Pig and Waffle in Grafton Underwood, as well as The Buttery Café and Farmshop in Woodford, have enjoyed significant success in a range of regional and national awards and continue to champion the county’s excellent hospitality sector.

As Greedy Gordons hope another award win will be on the menu, Richard, who manages the Greedy Gordons collection of venues with business partner Sonya Harvey, announced they are supporting the search for the industry’s culinary champions in the county. Greedy Gordons has pledged its support for this year’s Weetabix Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards and are again a category sponsor.

Award-winner Richard said: “Over the years it has been fantastic to win numerous Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards across our venues. We want to help support and celebrate the incredible venues, suppliers and home-grown stars of hospitality here in our own county, so this year we are incredibly proud to sponsor the Chef of the Year award.

“Across all our successful businesses we continue to provide exceptional career opportunities across all hospitality positions, from front of house to our incredible kitchens, where our inspiring, creative chefs work their menu magic.

“So, sponsoring the Chef of the Year award category was an obvious choice for Greedy Gordons, as it helps shine a spotlight on the talent that exists here on our doorstep.

“We pride ourselves on helping everyone reach their full potential as stars of our county and toast all hospitality heroes.”

The results of the competition, which sees finalists awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze, will be announced at the awards event taking place in October at Royal & Derngate in Northampton.

On the awards website, Rachel Mallows MBE DL, Award Director said: “It’s been a brilliant start to this year’s Weetabix Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards, with entries pouring in from all around the county – each one a testament to the incredible talent behind our food and drink stars.

“These producers and businesses nourish our communities all year round, and in the face of rising costs and economic pressures, they need – and deserve – our recognition and support more than ever.”

Alongside awards activities, the Greedy Gordons team has been busy showcasing seasonal dishes on its new menu at The Red Lion, where the pub has also just officially opened its new Fat Crab and Cocktails al fresco seafood dining experiences.

While Red Lion regulars can enjoy the pub’s extensive menu of new delicious dishes, the Fat Crab and Cocktails is a new designated dining area located in the garden of the pub. It offers a creative collection of fresh seafood, showcasing its Seafood Boil, served piping hot to diners’ tables so they can enjoy the great outdoors while tucking into the likes of lobsters, langoustines, clams, crab claws, tiger prawns, cockles, brown crab and much more.

Richard added: “We are thrilled to bring this sensational Seafood Boil immersive dining experience to the county. We provide diners with picks, bibs, crackers and gloves and it is an exceptional experience not to be missed!”
