Adding a splash of colour to this summer’s calendar

While we’re in the grey depths of winter, it’s exciting to look ahead to the weather improving and brighter days and, come summer, one of the most colourful events in the Milton Keynes calendar.

On June 13, Milton Keynes Rugby Club will play host to the Harry’s Rainbow Colour Run, a family event in which participants of all ages can walk, run, toddle or even be pushed round the course, while being showered with all the colours of the rainbow.

Moving to its new, bigger home at Emerson Valley could well mean record numbers entering this year, completing the fully marshalled half-mile and one-mile courses in aid of the charity – founded in memory of Harry Mould, who died aged five in 2009 – to support children who have lost a loved one. The Colour Run has grown from an idea from Harry’s twin sister, Jessica, who wanted to stage a fundraising event she could help organise and take part in.

Alison Johnson, Fundraising and Events Manager at Harry’s Rainbow, said: “The Colour Run has grown over the years and we realised we needed to find a bigger venue. The rugby club has more space, plenty of parking, indoor toilet facilities and indoor space in case of bad weather.

“Once again, local sponsors have stepped up to support the event, which makes all the difference to us and for which we are so grateful, and we’d love to hear from any other businesses that want to get involved in this fun, family event.”

Brioche Pasquier and The Good Gym MK are once again offering their support, and businesses and organisations are being invited to sponsor the colour stations. Each station showers the participants with a different colour, and sponsors can choose a colour to reflect their own branding if they wish. They’ll also have a banner at the colour station with their logo and branding on it.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, June 13 and runners of all ages and abilities are invited to take part. Tickets are now on sale and the prices have been frozen from last year at £8 per ticket and £35 for a family of five.

Anyone raising £100 in sponsorship will receive a goody bag and a Harry The Hound toy, and the individual raising the most money will win a gift voucher.

Alison added: “It’s a great, colourful way to get involved in a lovely, family event, and all in an effort to raise money for a worthy cause so that we can continue to help as many bereaved children as possible in and around Milton Keynes.

“The route is safe and marshalled and there’s a non-colour route for those who don’t want to be sprayed, and, as always, there will be food and drink stalls, arts and crafts and other activities going on throughout the afternoon.”
