The hospitality industry is built on passion, resilience and long hours behind the scenes to create memorable experiences for others. Yet for many working within the sector, the pressure can come at a personal cost.
That is why Northampton College is bringing together local businesses, hospitality professionals and the wider community for a special charity dinner in support of The Burnt Chef Project – a global non-profit social enterprise dedicated to challenging mental health stigma and improving wellbeing within the hospitality industry.
Taking place on Thursday, June 18, at the student-led restaurant The Lane, the professionally curated four-course dinner will be delivered entirely by the college’s talented Level 3 Professional Cookery learners.
Priced at £30 per person, the evening is an opportunity for Northamptonshire’s business community to support the next generation of hospitality talent while helping raise awareness and vital funds for a cause that continues to grow in importance across the sector.
Founded in 2019 by Kris Hall following his own experiences witnessing burnout and mental health struggles among hospitality colleagues, The Burnt Chef Project has become a globally recognised voice advocating for healthier workplaces and better wellbeing support across hospitality and leisure.
For Northampton College, the event reflects a growing commitment to ensuring students entering the industry understand not only the technical excellence required within hospitality, but also the importance of wellbeing, teamwork and sustainable working cultures.
The dinner itself has been carefully crafted to showcase the creativity and professionalism of the college’s emerging culinary talent.
Guests will begin the evening with a choice of clam and chorizo chowder served with jalapeño ciabatta, or a roasted vegetable soup accompanied by jalapeño ciabatta. A refreshing pickled ginger sorbet palate cleanser will follow before the main course.
For the main event, diners can choose between pan-seared miso glazed duck breast with braised charred leeks and maltase sauce, or a spicy harissa glazed cauliflower steak served with cauliflower purée and brown butter caper and parsley sauce.
Dessert completes the experience with a comforting sticky toffee pudding, coffee caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream and pecan tuille. Alongside the dinner, guests can take part in a silent auction featuring prizes and experiences generously donated by local suppliers and businesses. All proceeds from both the event and the auction will go directly to The Burnt Chef Project.

Northampton College has long worked closely with employers across Northamptonshire to help develop future talent, and this dinner offers businesses a chance to engage directly with students preparing to enter the industry.
“It also highlights the increasingly important role mental health conversations now play within hospitality. While the sector is known for its creativity and fast-paced environment, it can also be demanding, physically exhausting and emotionally challenging. “Organisations such as The Burnt Chef Project are helping to shift the conversation and encourage businesses to place wellbeing at the centre of workplace culture.”
