Thornton College is celebrating another year of excellent post 16 qualification results, with Sixth Form students achieving impressive outcomes across a wide range of academic and vocational qualifications. Their achievements reflect years of commitment, perseverance and determination, supported by the encouragement of families and the expertise of dedicated staff.
Students have once again secured places at leading universities across the UK, such as Warwick, Birmingham and Exeter, progressing to courses spanning a broad range of disciplines including STEM subjects, the humanities, nursing, law, and the creative arts. Their destinations demonstrate the diversity of aspirations within the Thornton community and the confidence with which students are pursuing their next steps.
This year, 42% of all grades were awarded at A*- A or equivalent, and 68% of all grades A*- B or equivalent. As in previous years, students performed strongly in the Extended Project Qualification, with 73% of all grades A*-A. These results reflect the strength of Thornton’s personalised approach to learning and the determination of students to fulfil their potential.
Among those celebrating today is Nina who will be taking up a place to study Law at Exeter. Reflecting on her time at Thornton, she said:
‘Thornton has helped me fulfil my academic potential as well as explore so many extra curricular opportunities. But mostly, it’s allowed me to come out of my shell and become the person I want to be.’
Students achieved strong results across A Levels, BTEC and CTEC qualifications, continuing the College’s commitment to recognising and celebrating a wide range of pathways and talents. These outcomes reinforce the strength of Thornton’s non-selective approach, where every student is known as an individual and encouraged to achieve her personal best.
Head Teacher Dr Louise Shaw said:
We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 students this morning. Over the past two years, they have pursued a wide range of courses that reflect not only their talents, but their interests and ambitions.
They have succeeded, but more importantly, they have defined success on their own terms. I know these young women will look to the future with determination and purpose, and I have no doubt they will make a positive difference to the world around them. It has been a glorious morning celebrating their achievements and we wish every one of them the very best for the future.
