James Peck from Restaurant Ember is taking his skills to an international audience – and by doing so, hoping to continue his quest to bring something new and different to diners in Wellingborough.
The innovative barbecue restaurant in Nene Court on the Embankment invites customers to sit on the high stools in front of the chefs’ counter and watch the team at work, before eating the delicious seven-course tasting menu or small plates that have been created right in front of their eyes.
Recently, James has been taking part in a TV show for the Food Network and, while he was travelling, accepted an invitation to visit Texas for the biggest barbecue festival, Lockhart Rising, to learn a little more about the Texan style of cooking over coals.
He will be at Fume Festival at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham later this month to take part in what has become a global celebration of fire cooking, and has also come to the attention of influencer Tod of Instagram hit Eating With Tod, who was excited about the Restaurant Ember food, describing it as his favourite meal of the year so far after his visit in May.
James said: “It’s tough in the restaurant sector at the moment and I just want to bring as much excitement and buzz to eating out as I can. We’re getting involved in all kinds of things to bring Restaurant Ember, and our traditional pub, The Four Pears in Little Houghton, into the spotlight and encourage people to come out and enjoy some good food with us.
“We get a lot of diners in from all over the region, but we still feel that there are a lot of people in Wellingborough itself that don’t know about us or what we do.” Restaurant Ember, which has recently been listed in the Open Table Top 100 Restaurants for the first time, offers its ever-evolving tasting menu, a selection of small plates and a very popular Sunday lunch menu that offers small plates and smoked Sunday roasts as well as a choice of desserts.
Drawing on what he’s picked up from his trip to the USA, James will be hosting an Ember Post Texas Tipi Feast on July 4 at Moulton Grange Farm, Pitsford.
“I was lucky enough to be invited to the legendary Lockhart Rising festival, and while I was there, to spend time at the Michelin-starred Interstellar BBQ, and we will be bringing some of the finest traditional Texas oak-smoked traditions to a local audience.
“There are so many exciting things going on in the food sector at the moment, and we know people are finding it tough, but when you do get a chance to go out and enjoy good food, whether it’s watching the chefs cook over the flames at Ember or enjoying a traditional pub meal at The Four Pears, it has to be the best, and we think what we’re doing is among the best there is.”
