Northampton Saints Foundation has unveiled an exclusive, high-impact expedition to Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, in collaboration with Legend Expeditions, led by long-term supporter and Foundation Champion, Jack Fleckney.
Scheduled for September 14 to 26 this year, the initiative promises a unique opportunity for individuals to combine adventure, personal challenge and charitable giving.
Participants will embark on the eight-day journey via the acclaimed Lemosho Route, renowned for its varied terrain and optimal acclimatisation, culminating in the sunrise summit at Uhuru Peak the ‘Roof of Africa’ at 5,895 metres. Beyond its physical demands, the expedition offers awe-inspiring vistas from lush rainforest to glacial peaks, creating a truly transformative experience
Joining the climb will be former Northampton Saints players Tom Wood and Alex Waller, alongside the Foundation’s Head of Fundraising, Matt Robinson. The group is inviting individuals ready to challenge themselves while making a difference in their communities.
The expedition has been designed with comfort and high performance in mind. Participants will enjoy premium mountain accommodation, including stand-up tents, comfortable cot beds, thick mattresses, private toilets and hot showers. A dedicated team of chefs will prepare fresh, nutritious meals daily to sustain energy levels throughout the trek.
Tom Wood, former player and Foundation Ambassador, said: “This is a remarkable opportunity, not just to test our limits in one of the world’s most stunning environments, but also to raise funds that will transform young lives. It’s a challenge I’m excited and proud to take on.”
At the heart of the Kilimanjaro 2026 expedition is its community impact. Each climber will raise vital funds for Northampton Saints Foundation, supporting education, employability and social inclusion programmes alongside specialist services designed to empower people and open pathways to training and employment.
Founded in 1880 to support vulnerable youth through rugby, Northampton Saints’ mission endures today. The Foundation continues to nurture confidence, life skills and opportunity for thousands of young people across generations.
Beyond fundraising, the group will visit the Children of Kilimanjaro Orphanage near the base of mountain, where those on the expedition will deliver practical supplies, including educational and sports materials.
Jack Fleckney, Founder & Managing Director of Legend Expeditions, who will be leading the expedition said: “Being able to bring together the Foundation I’ve backed for so many years with the business we’ve built in Tanzania is something I’m genuinely excited about. Kilimanjaro grabbed hold of my heart the first time I stepped onto its slopes, and I’m excited to share that feeling with people from Northamptonshire as we form a team and go after the roof of Africa for an incredible cause.
“Twende (let’s go)!”
