Well-known for its networking activities and business partnerships, MKFM has again joined up with other media companies to help bring this year’s Dragon Boat Festival to Milton Keynes.
This summer, Willen Lake in Milton Keynes will be the setting for the hugely popular Dragon Boat Festival, an exciting and competitive day of racing on the waters of the city’s biggest lake.
A host of well-known businesses and high-profile companies have signed up for this colourful and entertaining community day, which also raises valuable funds for charity, and the scene is being set for this water-based wonder.
Radio and media hub MKFM is among the organisations that have not only enlisted to take part in the race in its own dragon boat but have re-joined as a media partner for this year. It means the news outlet can help increase awareness of the valuable event in MK’s annual diary and assist in making it an even greater success.
And joining up and assisting with local events is what MKFM does very well. It’s known for its monthly Meet of MK networking evenings, which are a ‘go-to’ for hundreds of business leaders across the city. And its community and charity work alongside the Meet of MK initiative has cemented MKFM’s reputation as a serious part of the Milton Keynes commercial landscape.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome MKFM on board as a key partner for the Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival,” said Alicja Green, Executive Director of organiser NewWave Events. “Having the city’s leading radio station involved amplifies our reach and truly cements the event as a major highlight in the MK calendar.
“The advantages of this partnership are significant: it allows us to share the incredible stories of our participating businesses and charities with a massive audience, generates fantastic energy across the community, and helps us to encourage even more local people to come down to Willen Lake to support the teams and enjoy the family festivities.”
Community and charity events such as the Dragon Boat Festival are at the heart of what MKFM does. Always looking for ways to help local initiatives, last year the broadcaster introduced a chosen charity concept at each of its monthly Meet of MK gatherings, where one good cause benefits from a charity raffle plus collections during the evening. The station has already passed more than £6,000 to local good causes as a result of this.
“Each month the chosen charity has a chance to present to the 200 or so delegates who attend a Meet of MK meeting, allowing them to outline the work they do for MK’s local community,” said Jo Ronan, Director, MKFM.
“And as the business community has already been brought together for food, drink, discussion and highly successful networking opportunities, we have found the entire package has proved a popular and successful one.”
This local involvement is continued through community events such as the Dragon Boat Festival. Confirmed entries already joining MKFM at the July 4 event include business publication Business MK, property marketing database TwentyCi Limited, management consultants Lumensol and engineering company Parker Fluidic Solutions Europe, Milton Keynes Rugby Club and living roof specialists Bridgman & Bridgman.
Teams of up to 15 can participate, and many local firms have organised squads of rowers ready to tackle the 200-metre race in an authentic dragon boat, while increasing the coffers of the charity of their choice – MK Food Bank, Toybox, Harry’s Rainbow, Willen Hospice and Al’s Pals are all on board and hoping to find fundraisers to support them.
And it’s that core attribute of working together for everyone’s benefit across Milton Keynes that fits so well with MKFM, outlining why being a part of this year’s Dragon Boat Festival is so important to the station.
MKFM’s The Meet of MK gathers every month at an exciting Milton Keynes venue.
